Zero Point, locally known as Yumesamdong, is the final motorable destination in North Sikkim, perched at about 15,300 ft (4,664 m) above sea level. It marks the transition from road to untouched wilderness, right near the Indo-China border

  • Starting Point: Reach Lachung, a scenic mountain town approximately 120 km from Gangtok (~6–7 hrs by road).
  • Final Leg: From Lachung, it’s another 50 km (2–3 hrs) to Zero Point via shared jeeps or private vehicles
  • Permits Required: Indian nationals must get an Inner Line Permit (ILP); foreigners cannot visit this restricted zone.

Best Time to Visit

  • April–June (Summer): Pleasant temperatures with clear mountain views.
  • October–March (Winter): Thick snow cover—ideal if you’re chasing a snowy landscape.
  • Avoid Monsoon: July–September sees heavy rains and frequent landslides

  2. Start early (≈5–6 AM) to avoid afternoon weather turn.
  3. Stay hydrated and carry oxygen cans if worried about high altitude.
  4. ATMs are unavailable; carry sufficient cash.
  5. Network is weak except sporadic BSNL service.
